We’ve spent the last 10 days talking about positioning.
We’ve talked about fishing.
We’ve talked about the gatekeeper.
We’ve talked about experience.
We’ve talked about passive income.
We’ve talked about digital assets.
We’ve even talked about why we’re repositioning Digital Five L.
Now it’s time to make this personal.
What’s your other side of the boat?
Start With Where You Are
Don’t begin by asking:
“What business should I start?”
That’s a huge question.
Start smaller.
Ask:
“What do I already have?”
Then write down your answers.
Your experience.
Your skills.
Your interests.
Your knowledge.
Your relationships.
Your audience.
Your resources.
Your available time.
Don’t judge the answers.
Just get them on paper.
Next, Identify the Person You Want to Help
Who do you understand?
Who has problems you’ve already solved?
Who might benefit from your experience?
The more specific you can become, the easier it is to position yourself.
Instead of:
“I want to help people make money online.”
You might say:
“I want to help people in their Second Act understand simple ways to create online income.”
That’s much clearer.
Then Identify the Problem
What is keeping those people stuck?
Maybe they’re overwhelmed.
Maybe they don’t understand the technology.
Maybe they don’t know where to begin.
Maybe they’ve tried things that didn’t work.
Maybe they think they’re too old.
Maybe they don’t know what they could possibly sell.
Now you’ve got something useful.
Then Make One Small Adjustment
Here’s the important part.
Don’t change everything.
Pick one thing.
Change your audience.
Change your message.
Change your platform.
Change your offer.
Change the way you present your experience.
Change the problem you’re focusing on.
Change where you’re looking for customers.
Change one variable.
Then give the adjustment enough time to produce useful information.
Your Positioning Worksheet
Grab a piece of paper and complete these sentences:
Where I am now:
What I’m good at:
What I know:
The people I want to help:
The problem I can help them solve:
Something I could create:
Where those people might find me:
One thing I could reposition:
My next small experiment:
That’s it.
Not a 47-step business plan.
Not a five-year strategic document.
One adjustment.
One experiment.
One step.
Remember the Boat
The disciples weren’t told to build a new boat.
They weren’t told to find another lake.
They weren’t told to become different fishermen.
They were told to adjust where they cast their net.
That’s the heart of the Law of Positioning.
Don’t automatically change everything when one thing isn’t working.
Look closely.
Adjust intelligently.
Test.
Learn.
Adjust again.
That’s business.
That’s life.
And that’s especially appropriate for a Second Act.
You don’t have to reinvent yourself.
You can reposition yourself.
So take a look around your boat.
Your net might be closer to the fish than you think.
