There’s a funny little trap in the online business world.
We’re constantly being told we need something else.
Another course.
Another tool.
Another strategy.
Another platform.
Another software subscription.
Another certification.
Another shiny object with a countdown timer.
And before long, we’re collecting information instead of taking action.
But here’s a question worth asking:
What if you already have enough to begin?
You Already Have Something Valuable
If you’re reading this and you’re in your Second Act, you’ve probably accumulated decades of something.
Knowledge.
Experience.
Stories.
Skills.
Mistakes.
Relationships.
Lessons.
Perspective.
You may have spent years solving problems that other people are still trying to figure out.
That’s a pretty good starting point.
You don’t necessarily need to become an entirely different person before you can create something online.
You may simply need to package what you already know.
The Information Trap
Learning is important.
That’s why LEARN is the first of the Five Ls.
But there’s a difference between learning something useful and endlessly preparing to begin.
At some point, you have to move from:
“What else do I need to know?”
to:
“What can I do with what I already know?”
That’s when things start getting interesting.
Your First Product Could Be Simple
Imagine someone who’s spent 30 years doing something professionally.
They might think:
“I don’t know enough to create a product.”
But someone just beginning that journey might be desperate for the information that person takes for granted.
You don’t have to create the ultimate resource.
Create the next useful resource.
A 20-page guide.
A checklist.
A short Kindle book.
A workbook.
A collection of templates.
A simple course.
A resource list.
A practical blog.
Start there.
You Don’t Need to Know Everything
Remember the hiking trail from Day 7.
You don’t have to know every trail in the country.
You just need to know enough to help someone navigate the trail you’re familiar with.
Your experience can put you several steps ahead of someone else.
That’s enough to begin.
And as you teach, you’ll learn more.
As you create, you’ll improve.
As you help people, you’ll discover better questions.
The process itself becomes part of your education.
The Digital Five L Philosophy
This is another reason we’re repositioning Digital Five L around education.
We don’t want to simply point people toward another product and say:
“Here. Buy this.”
We want to help people understand:
Why might this matter?
How could you use it?
Who could you help?
What could you create?
How could you simplify the process?
That’s what education does.
It gives people a starting point.
And sometimes a starting point is all someone needs.
Take Inventory
Before you buy another course or subscribe to another tool, take 30 minutes and make a list.
Write down:
What do I know?
What have I done?
What problems have I solved?
What do people ask me about?
What could I teach a beginner?
What could I turn into a digital asset?
You might be surprised by what you find.
Your next opportunity may not be hiding behind another purchase.
It may already be sitting inside your own experience.
You may already have more than you realize.
