Living in South Texas, I took a drive north of Ft. Worth this past weekend—over 300 miles each way. It was one of those road trips where I found myself reflecting on how we all hustle to build a life for ourselves and our families. I call the item I picked up on the trip “our kid’s inheritance,” since it’s something they’ll eventually sell and make some money off.
I took the backroads heading there and the interstate coming home. Passing by a mix of big chain stores and local businesses got me thinking about how different people find their way to success. Sure, the chains offer consistency, but I’ve got a real appreciation for the independent shops. There’s something inspiring about seeing how people are using their skills and passion to create a life they’re proud of.
I drove by businesses that have been standing for generations, along with some places that looked like they’re barely getting by. There were new startups with a lot of energy, ready to take on the world. Texas has no shortage of BBQ joints and Mexican restaurants, and it’s interesting how each one has its own twist—maybe it’s a unique sauce or a different way of cooking. You can tell they’re putting their heart into it.
On the way back, a friend had recommended Braum’s, so I made a pit stop. It’s a chain with a fast food restaurant & grocery store carrying their own branded products. I tried the California Chipotle Burger—had no idea it’d come with avocado, but it was awesome! Topping it off with a fresh milk shake made with one of their many ice cream flavors rounded out the meal.
